Job Opening: Technical Project Manager
Springer Publishing Company is seeking a Technical Project Manager to join the Information Services and Technology Team. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), this role will lead technical project management efforts that drive the development, integration, and implementation of technology solutions across the organization. We are looking for a technically skilled, highly organized, and detail-oriented professional with a proven ability to deliver complex technology-focused projects that enhance business operations and foster innovation.
This position requires a hands-on project manager with strong technical acumen, experience working with Agile teams, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time, within scope, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Project Leadership: Own the end-to-end delivery of technical projects, including the implementation of new software platforms, system integrations, and infrastructure upgrades. Ensure alignment with organizational goals and technology strategies.
- Agile Project Management: Lead Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, working closely with development teams to manage backlogs, prioritize tasks, and meet project milestones.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a bridge between technical teams, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors to gather and document requirements, align priorities, and ensure successful project execution.
- Project Planning and Resource Allocation: Develop detailed project plans, define workstreams, allocate resources, and manage dependencies to ensure the efficient execution of technical initiatives.
- Risk Management and Troubleshooting: Identify technical risks, develop mitigation strategies, and address challenges that arise during project execution, ensuring minimal disruption to timelines.
- Vendor and Third-Party Management: Manage relationships with external vendors, including monitoring deliverables, timelines, and budget compliance.
- Process Optimization: Recommend and implement best practices to improve workflows, enhance efficiency, and ensure the scalability of systems and solutions.
- Reporting and Communication: Create and share progress reports, performance metrics, and presentations to update stakeholders on the status, challenges, and successes of technical projects.
- Technical Expertise: Provide guidance on technology solutions, participate in system testing, and ensure the delivery of high-quality technical implementations that meet organizational needs.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of technical project management experience, with a proven track record of managing technology implementations, software development projects, or system integrations.
- Certifications: PMP, Agile, or Scrum certifications required. Technical certifications (e.g., AWS, Microsoft, or similar) are a plus.
- Tools: Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., JIRA, MS Project, Asana) and technical tools (e.g., Confluence, GitHub, or other development collaboration platforms). Experience with visualization tools like LucidChart or Visio.
- Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), cloud platforms, APIs, and data integrations. Hands-on experience working with development teams is highly desirable.
- Collaboration and Communication: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, communicate technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders, and manage competing priorities.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Proactive in identifying challenges and implementing practical solutions. Experience managing technical risks and driving timely resolution.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in EdTech, direct-to-consumer eCommerce, or digital publishing is a significant advantage.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage shifting priorities, and deliver results under tight deadlines.
- Travel: Must be local and able to travel to our Princeton, NJ office as required.
