Job Opening: Director, eCommerce & Performance Marketing
About the Role:
Springer Publishing is expanding our marketing team and seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Director, eCommerce and Performance Marketing to lead and build best-in-class online retail programs for our DTC business. This role is central to delivering an exceptional shopping experience on springerpub.com and increasing direct-to-consumer sales across our growing portfolio of digital learning platforms and exam prep products.
We’re looking for a healthcare-savvy, retail-focused marketing professional with a strong track record of creating exceptional online storefront and shopping experiences—not someone to run digital ad campaigns. This role is about owning the on-site experience and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and lead an eCommerce growth roadmap focused on creating an intuitive, high-converting, and seamless shopping experience on springerpub.com
- Build and implement on-site merchandising strategies aligned with customer behavior and sales goals
- Launch innovative acquisition and retention programs through site personalization, promotions, and product recommendations
- Drive optimization of the DTC customer journey—from discovery to checkout—ensuring frictionless UX/UI
- Own the site analytics dashboard and track KPIs such as conversion rate, AOV, and cart abandonment
- Run ongoing testing (A/B, multivariate) to refine layout, content, and conversion strategies
- Identify and implement technology solutions for personalization, automation, and streamlined purchase flows
- Collaborate with tech teams to enhance the Magento storefront
- Stay current on eCommerce and retail trends to uncover growth opportunities
Experience
- 7+ years in B2C eCommerce marketing, with deep experience in online retail merchandising, site optimization, and customer experience strategy.
- Prior experience in healthcare, health education, or a related industry strongly preferred
- Strong grasp of on-site marketing technologies and platforms (Hubspot (a must), Magento, Salesforce, , Google Analytics, Hotjar, etc.).
- Proven success in growing DTC businesses via eCommerce channel improvements (not digital advertising).
- Hands-on experience with UX/UI testing and design collaboration.
- Experience with predictive analytics, conversion optimization, cart abandonment recovery, and personalization tactics.
- Analytical mindset with strong storytelling skills—able to turn insights into compelling customer experiences.
- A builder’s mentality: You’re comfortable leading initiatives from scratch and scaling them up quickly.
- Experience in educational content, digital learning, or health publishing is a plus, but not required.
Work Style
- This is a remote-first role, with the expectation that the candidate will be available to travel into our Princeton, NJ office a few times a month and as needed for key planning sessions and team collaboration.
- Occasional travel required.
Management of Others
- This position does have direct supervisory responsibilities.
