Job Opening: Director, eCommerce Marketing- Consumer Retail
About the Role:
Springer Publishing is expanding our marketing team and seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Director of eCommerce Marketing to lead and build best-in-class online retail programs for our DTC business. This role is central to delivering an exceptional shopping experience on springerpub.com and increasing direct-to-consumer sales across our growing portfolio of digital learning platforms and exam prep products.
This leader will develop, execute, and continuously refine consumer eCommerce strategies that combine site merchandising, UX/UI improvements, A/B testing, and data-driven insights to optimize conversion, average order value, and customer retention. We’re looking for a retail-savvy marketing professional with a strong track record of creating exceptional online storefront and shopping experiences—not someone to run digital ad campaigns. This role is about owning the on-site experience and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and lead an eCommerce growth roadmap focused on creating an intuitive, high-converting, and seamless shopping experience on springerpub.com.
- Build and implement on-site merchandising strategies to showcase high-impact products and offers that align with customer behavior and sales goals.
- Launch innovative customer acquisition and retention programs using site personalization, promotions, and product recommendations.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to plan and execute product launches, seasonal campaigns, and promotional calendars on the website.
- Lead and optimize the full DTC customer journey, from discovery to checkout, ensuring frictionless UX/UI that drives engagement and purchase.
- Own and evolve the site analytics dashboard; track KPIs like conversion rate, bounce rate, cart abandonment, and AOV to inform future enhancements.
- Drive an always-on testing program (A/B, multivariate) to improve layout, content, messaging, and pricing experiences.
- Advocate for and implement technology solutions that enable personalization, merchandising automation, and streamlined purchase flows.
- Collaborate with tech teams to scope and prioritize enhancements to the Magento storefront.
- Keep a pulse on eCommerce trends and competitor tactics to identify new growth opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience
- 7+ years in B2C eCommerce marketing, with deep experience in online retail merchandising, site optimization, and customer experience strategy.
- Strong grasp of on-site marketing technologies and platforms (Magento, Salesforce, HubSpot, Google Analytics, Hotjar, etc.).
- Proven success in growing DTC businesses via eCommerce channel improvements (not digital advertising).
- Hands-on experience with UX/UI testing and design collaboration.
- Experience with predictive analytics, conversion optimization, cart abandonment recovery, and personalization tactics.
- Analytical mindset with strong storytelling skills—able to turn insights into compelling customer experiences.
- A builder’s mentality: You’re comfortable leading initiatives from scratch and scaling them up quickly.
- Experience in educational content, digital learning, or health publishing is a plus, but not required.
Work Style
- Hybrid: Must be local and able to work from our Princeton, NJ office two or three days per week.
- Occasional travel required.
Management of Others
- This position does have direct supervisory responsibilities.
