QUIZ: How Strong Is Your Network?

Let’s measure how strong your network is! The questions below focus on three main areas, the quality of your network, the quality of your relationships within your network, and your focus on continually growing and nurturing your circle and relationships. Be sure to pay attention to which area you are the strongest in and where you miss points so you can focus on improving!

Give yourself one point for each question that you answer YES to:

1. Do you consider someone in your network a mentor?
2. Do people from your network challenge you as much as they support you?
3. Do the people in your network have strong networks?
4. Are the people in your network representative of where you see your career progressing to?

1. Do you connect with nurses you meet on social media to stay in contact?
2. Have you spoken with/gone out with a colleague that is not a part of your regular circle in the last 3 months?
3. Have you given or received professional advice or assistance from someone in your network in the last 3 months?

1. Do you attend nursing events at least twice per year?
2. Do you regularly introduce yourself to and assist with the onboarding of new colleagues?
3. When you meet other nurses socially, do you connect and stay in touch?

9-10 points- Congratulations! You have a strong network of nurses surrounding you! Be sure to stay in touch with your contacts regularly and continue meeting new people!

5-9 points- You have laid the groundwork of a network but should focus on growing and building your professional relationships more. Be sure to take advantage of opportunities to meet other nurses and to stay in touch with them to nurture the relationship.

0-4 points- Your network needs work. Focus on meeting someone new right in your workplace this week and sign up for a nursing course or event, visit our conference page if you need help finding one! Have an elevator pitch ready about what you do and what your professional goals are and ask the people you meet about their current role and future dreams. You can do this!
