CDE® Certification Requirements

Get moving toward the next chapter in your career by taking the following steps to getting your Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE®) certification.

Apply for and Schedule the CDE Exam
Once the above requirements are met, you’re all set to apply for the CDE® examination!

Note that your application fee includes a $100 non-refundable processing fee.

Start Studying for the CDE certification exam (if you haven’t already!)
Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to prepare for CDE certification — most people take at least 2 or 3 months to prepare, given the amount of content you need to know. - Do you meet the NCBDE’s Discipline requirement?
- Do you meet the NCBDE’s Professional Practice Experience requirements?
- Have you obtained a minimum of 15 continuing education hours? Get the details on the Continuing Education requirement here!

There are two ways to apply for the exam:
- Apply and Schedule Online: Click here to begin the online application process on the PSI Services website. You can use the “Register for this Exam” option at the bottom of the screen or click on “Candidates” in the top navigation and follow the online instructions. You’ll need your CDE®/certificate numbers when you register.
- Paper Application and Scheduling: Locate the paper application in the Exam Handbook, fill it out, and submit it to PSI. You’ll mail the application, applicable documents, and all required fees to:
