10 Things to Do the Day of the Exam
Feb 20, 2019
Test Preparation for the Day of the Exam.
Arrive at your exam cool, calm, and collected by following these 10 simple steps the day of the test!
- Minimize discomfort—dress comfortably, take a sweater (in case the air conditioning is too cold), sit near the front or wherever there are fewer distractions, or sit away from windows if distracting.
- Get to the test site early to relax (do muscle relaxation or visualization); arrive at least 20 to 30 minutes before the test starts.
- Be careful about taking too much sleeping medication the night before or drinking too much coffee before the exam.
- Eat before the test. Having food in your stomach will give you energy and help you focus; however, avoid heavy foods, which can make you groggy.
- Go to the bathroom before walking into the exam room. You do not want to waste any time worrying about your bodily needs during the test.
- Avoid eating a heavy breakfast or eating only simple carbs. The best meals are a combination of a protein with a complex carbohydrate (eggs, whole-wheat bread, nuts, cheese, etc.). If you eat only simple carbs, you can become hypoglycemic within 1 hour.
- Avoid drinking too much fluid and do not forget to empty your bladder before the exam.
- Wear comfortable clothing and dress in layers in case of temperature changes.
- Jewelry may not be allowed inside the testing area except for wedding and/or engagement rings. Leave valuables at home.
- If allowed, bring a watch to the test so that you can better pace yourself.
